This article explains the steps to configure your CE Smart Home Dimmer Switches to your Wi-Fi network via the CE Smart App.
- There are two configuration methods, Normal/Smart Configuration Mode and AP Mode (Access Point Mode).
- Default Configuration Method is Normal Mode/Smart Configuration.
- If Normal Mode connection fails, please try connecting in AP mode.
Prior to configuring your Smart Devices, please note that CE Smart Home Devices require connection to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band and are not compatible with 5GHz bands.
- If you are unsure of your router’s output signal strength, please contact your internet service provider to confirm.
First, ensure you've downloaded CE Smart, have registered for an account and are signed in.
Next, ensure your phone/tablet being used to connect the Smart devices is connected to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
- CE Smart Home Devices are not compatible with 5GHz bands.
If you have a dual band router:
Determine the configuration method to use by checking if your 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands are separated by differing network names.
- Check if you have one network name or two network names by visiting your Wi-Fi networks list on your phone/tablet. Check in your Wi-Fi networks list to see if you have two home network names (i.e. MyHome and MyHome-5), or just one (i.e. MyHome).
- If you have only one home network name:
- Connect your switch in AP mode (slow flashing LED indicator) for stable connection
- If AP mode connection is unsuccessful, you may need to separate the bands into two different names, so you can connect directly to the 2.4GHz network name (SSID).
- If you have two different home network names:
- Connect your switch in normal mode (quick flashing LED indicator)
- Prior to connecting, be sure you’re connected to your 2.4GHz network on your phone/tablet.
- If you have only one home network name:
- If you are not sure which network is 2.4GHz: connect to the network that does not have a ‘5’ in the name. If both your network names exclude a ‘5’ or you still aren’t sure, contact your internet service provider to confirm.
- If Normal mode connection fails, try connecting in AP mode.
Normal Mode:
(Smart Dimmer: 3-way)
The LED indicator (on the bottom of the switch) should be quickly flashing (~2x per second) when initializing connection in Normal Mode.
- First, check to ensure your phone/tablet being used to connect smart devices is connected to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- After the switch is properly installed, Slide the Air-Gap Switch ON (to the right) and wait a few seconds for the LED indicator to begin quickly flashing (2x per second)
- If the LED indicator does not automatically begin flashing:
- Press and hold either the top or bottom paddle button for 20 seconds until the LED indicator begins quickly flashing (2x per second)
- Press and hold either the top or bottom paddle button for 20 seconds until the LED indicator begins quickly flashing (2x per second)
- If the LED indicator does not automatically begin flashing:
While the switch's LED indicator is rapidly flashing (2x per second):
- In the CE Smart App, Tap “Add Device” or “+” in the upper right corner
- Select “Light Switches"
- Confirm the LED indicator is rapidly flashing and confirm this in the App
- Enter your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi password (case sensitive), and tap "OK" or confirm to connect
- Device Connection Process will begin
- While connecting, it is normal for the LED indicator to briefly stop flashing.
- If connection fails, please see the section below to try connection in AP mode.
Light Switches - AP Mode:
(Smart Dimmer: 3-way)
In AP mode, or Access Point Mode, the Smart Device broadcasts a hotspot to connect to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
The blue LED indicator should be slowly flashing (1x every 2-3 seconds) when initializing connection in AP mode.
- If the LED indicator does not automatically begin quickly flashing:
- Press and hold either the top or bottom paddle button for 20 seconds until the LED indicator begins quickly flashing (2x per second)
- If the LED indicator does not automatically begin quickly flashing:
- Once the LED indicator is quickly flashing (2x per second), follow the steps below to initialize a slow flashing LED indicator (1x per 2-3 seconds):
- Press and hold either the top or bottom paddle button for 20 seconds until the LED indicator begins slowly flashing (1x every 2-3s).
While the switch's LED indicator is slowly flashing:
- While the blue LED indicator is slowly flashing, open the CE Smart App, tap "+" or "add device"
- Select “Light Switches"
- In the top right corner select 'Other Mode' then 'AP Mode.'
- Check to ensure the LED indicator is still slowly flashing on the switch, and tap to confirm in the app.
- Enter your 2.4Ghz WiFi password (case sensitive) and confirm.
- A pop up message will appear; click "go to connect" / "connect now." You will be brought to your settings, open Wi-Fi networks and search for "CE Smart-xxxx" and select.
- Once connected to the CE Smart-xxxx Wi-Fi network, wait about 5 seconds then go back to the CE Smart App; connection will automatically begin.
- While connecting, it is normal for the LED to stop flashing.
- When a connection is established, the LED indicator will turn solid; the app will then quickly load to 100% to complete connection.
If you’re experiencing connection failure in Normal Mode and AP Mode, you may need to modify a router setting.
